Mr. John H. Stevens Jr., 84, of Gloversville, passed away Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital, with his loving family by his side. He was born June 15, 1929, in Gloversville, son of the late John H. and Ella Nutting Stevens Sr. Educated in local schools, Mr. Stevens proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952 at which time he transferred to the Reserve Unit until 1956.
John worked as a general laborer with the Fulton County Highway Department, retiring as foreman many years ago. An avid outdoorsman, he always looked forward to camping, fishing and hunting, especially with family and his favorite grandson, Chris Dority, who John and his late wife Blanche raised and whose sudden death in 2013 greatly effected John as well as his extended family.
He is survived by his children, Allan Stevens (Bonnie) of Gloversville, Bonnie Pitt of Gloversville, Charlene Wilder of Ft. Plain, Debra Melita (Ed) of Fonda and Donna Horning (John) of Gloversville. John is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his loving dog, Bucket. He was predeceased by his wife, Blanche, whom he married May 10, 1958; a son, Richard Dority; and two brothers, Martin Stevens and William Stevens.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, with the Reverend Dr. R.W. Williams officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
