JOHNSTOWN - The office of City Engineer Chandra Cotter has completed a preliminary review of applications for the $200,000 New York Main Street Program grant the city was awarded in December.
During Common Council reports given recently at City Hall, 2nd Ward Councilwoman Kathi Iannotti said the next step is to have the council review the applications.
She said the council will be receiving the applications by April 14. A timeline projected earlier this year states property owners downtown will be notified of awards on April 25.

The program will be operated along East and West Main streets, between City Hall and William Street. Funding for the program is being provided by the state Division of Housing and Community Renewal.
The program provides grants for property owners to fix facades, commercial spaces and residential units on upper floors of mixed-use buildings. City officials say the goal of the program is to revitalize traditional main streets - including historic preservation - create a pedestrian-friendly environment and spur commercial and residential redevelopment.
The program may award up to $50,000 per building, with an additional $10,000 per residential unit that's repaired. The maximum grant amount a property owner can receive is $100,000. Owners must provide a minimum of 25 percent of the costs.
Elsewhere in the DPW report, Iannotti said the former Karg Bros. tannery site was due to be covered by dirt by the end of this week. The site is being readied for redevelopment.
She reported the city is also getting cost estimates for projects related to refurbishing the Rail Trail in the city.
Third Ward Councilwoman Helen Martin reported the Johnstown Senior Citizens Center will conduct Lifeline health screenings from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 3.
"They do a great job with these screenings," Martin said.
