GLOVERSVILLE - A city man was arrested Friday after he refused to get medical care for his ill dog, police said.

John C. Edick, 52, of 164 Bleecker St., was charged with cruelty to animals, a misdemeanor.

Police said Edick contacted the Animal Control and police after his dog became gravely ill. When Edick was advised he would have to provide medical care, police said, he threatened to shoot the dog.

Edick refused to cooperate and the dog was transported to the Johnstown Animal Clinic where it had to be euthanized due to its condition, police said.

Capt. John Sira said the 17-year-old dog had lost the use of its rear legs.

Sira said Edick was charged for not providing the medical attention the dog needed.

Edick was arraigned in City Court and sent to the Fulton County Jail.
