What is going on with the majority of the trustees of the Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville Central School District? Are they unaware of their duties of the position they took an oath to serve?
Many of the questions asked in the public forum are not explained or acted upon; in fact, many of those who attend and take advantage of the public forum are treated with disrespect. This merger was supported by the voters from two school districts based on the vision that was presented by the districts' leaders and the Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery Board of Cooperative Educational Services district leader as well as various state-education representatives.
The district has turned the feeling for this merger upside down by their actions and lack of action. The kids are getting along, but the board members are making a mockery of this merger and what it was supposed to be. Why are our local newspapers not attending these meetings occasionally? We get an email from the school representing what has happened at these meetings and it is copied in our newspapers. I was at some of those meetings, and what I read was far different than what occurred.
Some people are not able to attend and see how many of the people with questions are treated. Come to the meeting; if you come, maybe those who are not doing their job will change their ways or resign.
Was the merger a major mistake? I hope not, and I look forward to seeing more of the district's citizens coming to see just how bad it is. Maybe this will wake up the board members and have them leave their issues at home and really accomplish something for the good of our kids and grandkids.
