Gladys Simek, age 86, of Johnstown, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2013, at the Palatine Nursing Home.
Born on October 23, 1927, in Johnstown, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Elsie Harrison Earl.
Gladys was employed with Contel of Johnstown until her retirement.
In her early years she was a den mother for Pack 107 of Rockwood.
She was also a member of the Mohawk Council No. 338, Improved Order of Red Men degree of Pocahontas.
Her hobbies included gardening, baking and knitting.
She was united in marriage to John Simek on January 7, 1949, and he passed away on October 29, 2004.
Survivors include her children, Julia (Steve Seelow) Meher, Rudolph (Sherrie) Simek, Christine Simek, Stephen (Ladi) Simek, and Amy (Mark) Rulison; two brothers, Clifford Earl and Charles Earl; one sister, Margaret Clark; grandchildren, Tracey Nelson, Christopher Sweeney, Scott Rulison and Torie Rulison; great-grandchildren, Sierra, Kendell, Christopher and Michael Sweeney; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Mary and Caroline.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, 1 North Market Street, Johnstown.
Visitation for family and friends will be on today, October 29, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the A. G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.
Interment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
