Barbara A. Svolos, age 86, of Johnstown, passed away on Thursday October 24, 2013, at the Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville.
Born May 29, 1927 in Cortland, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Ruth Crowter Alter.
She was a graduate of Johnstown High School and the Nathan Littauer Nursing School and Cadet Nurse Corps in 1947.
Barbara was employed at the Nathan Littauer Hospital as a registered nurse. She was well respected in field working as a Assistant night supervisor and trauma and emergency room nurse. She retired in 1990.
Mrs. Svolos was also a member of the Nathan Littauer Alumni.
She was united in marriage to George J. Svolos on December 24, 1947 and he passed on July 28, 1996.
Survivors include one son, William (Melissa) Svolos of Thomasville, Alabama; three daughters, Nikki Ann Svolos (Lynn deceased) of Johnstown, Sharon Svolos of Johnstown and Stephanie (Thomas) Schmidt of Whitesboro; two sisters Patricia Leaton of South Biron and Judy Schuh of Mayfield; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, October 28, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.
Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the nursing program at F.M.C.C. or to Mountain Valley Hospice.
