Too many still smoking

October 6, 2013
The Leader Herald

I was very excited to see New York state celebrating 10 years of clean indoor air over the summer.

However, despite our success in the last decade, tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable death and disease in the United States. There is more work to be done. We still have around 25,000 New Yorkers who will die this year due to their smoking and another 2,600 who will die prematurely from exposure to secondhand smoke.

If you smoke, talk to your doctor today about quitting and make your home and car a clean indoor air zone. And remember, the New York State Smokers' Quitline in there to help any New Yorker at 1-866-NY-QUITS.
