John P. Damiano, 78, of Gloversville and Jupiter, Fla., passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
John was born on January 12, 1935, in Gloversville, N.Y., to the late Anthony and Elizabeth Burrell Damiano. He was a graduate of Gloversville High School. After high school John entered the General Electric Apprentice School, and retired in 1986 after 35 years of service. On September 23, 1956, he married Beverly Gage, and they shared 55 years together.
After retirement John and Beverly moved to Jupiter, Florida, and still maintained their home in Gloversville and returned every summer. While in Florida John worked for Pratt & Whitney, retiring in 1997. John was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church of Tequesta, Fla., a member of the Elks Lodge of Jupiter, Fla., and the Moose Club. He enjoyed watching his New York Yankees every day. In the 70s John coached Little League Baseball and Pop Warner Football.
John is survived by his loving wife, Beverly; and their sons, Nick of Jupiter, Fla., Anthony of Gloversville and John of Jupiter, Fla.; also his sister, Lucy Mazzatenta of Drexel Hill, Pa. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Anthony.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Amico Funeral Home, 150 South Main Street, Gloversville, where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at the Church of the Holy Spirit. Burial will take place at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.
