Ellen F. Bellen

Mrs. Ellen F. Bellen, 92, of Mayfield, passed away May 21, 2013, at her residence with her loving family at her side. She was born March 26, 1921, in Caroga, N.Y., daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Spencer Farrar. Ellen was educated in North Bush and Johnstown schools. She was a glove worker most of her life, employed at the former Scottsmoors Knit Glove Co., Mayfield Glove and St. Thomas Inc. She also worked in the kitchen of the Ida McGinnis Senior Center for many years, retiring in 1998.

Throughout her life, Ellen enjoyed dancing and being an excellent homemaker, devoted to her family. She was always there to volunteer help for family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her including her extended family, the "Hayes Kids."

Ellen is survived by her children, Tom Bellen (Nancy C.) of Mayfield, Clarinda L. "Casey" Bellen of Johnstown, and Inkeri DeRobertis (Sam) of Mayfield. She is also survived by her grandchildren, George Bellen (Kim), Shannon Morrison (Bob), Byren Bellen (Jen), Robert Bellen, Theron Suits, Nikki Spurlock (Casey), Stacey Bellen, Tom Bellen Jr. (Dawn), William Bellen, Tami Bellen (Justin), Marc Leslie; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her daughter-in-law, Nancy L. Bellen of Galway.

In 1998, Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Robert E. "Torch" Bellen, whom she married November 26, 1948. She was also predeceased by her brother, Robert Stanley Farrar; half brothers, Alfred, Clyde and Ted Brooks; as well as her sister-in-law, Vivian Farrar.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service for urn burial at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Mayfield Cemetery, Mayfield, with the Reverend Dr. R.W. Williams officiating. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville.
