MAYFIELD - The New York Forest Owners Association Southeastern Adirondack Chapter will offer an informative walk in the woods from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 18 starting at 411 Beech Street.
This is one of many walks being offered across the state from May 11 through 19 to celebrate the association's 50th anniversary and highlight its Restore New York Woodlands initiative.
The effort brings attention to the challenges facing forests and what is being done to assure their future, a news release said.
Participants will learn about the ecological and economic benefits that woodlands provide society, as well as the threats facing forests.
Attendance is free, but registration is necessary so organizers can plan for parking and handout materials, the news release said.
The public is invited.
Attendees are asked to dress for the weather and wear boots or shoes suitable for walking on woodland trails, some of which are on hilly terrain. For registration and more information, call Kurt and Kristie Edwards at 661-5685.
