Emma Simonds celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends at Pineview Commons in Johnstown on April 6. Simonds has been a lifelong resident of Fulton County and is the last survivor of 13 siblings. She has three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Simonds attributes her longevity to her life as a nonsmoker and nondrinker. She has kept active all her life, including walking up 11 flights of stairs at Kingsboro Towers until she was 98. Simonds and her husband, Leonard, lived on Fifth Avenue in Gloversville and had a camp on the Great Sacandaga Lake. She retired as a hair dresser at age 76.
