The Leader Herald

Mr. LaPier Kraft, 79, of Ephratah, passed away February 14, 2013, at his residence following a brief illness. He was born September 19, 1933, in Nelliston, N.Y., son of the late Leo and Esther Bellinger Kraft. Mr. Kraft graduated from St. Johnsville High School and had been a self-employed carpenter, well known throughout the area, his entire life. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953-1955.

An accomplished, self-taught musician, LaPier had a passion for music that was well respected. He especially excelled on the keyboard, although he played several instruments with ease. LaPier was always excited to provide an "open mic" for patrons at his various affairs such as the Coffee Klutch, formerly in Gloversville, and with the groups he played with, Touch of Class and Fox Creek.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Bonny Sweet of Ephratah; two sons, Mark Kraft of Florida and Mitchell Kraft of Amsterdam; two stepsons, Christopher Ferrara and his companion, April, and Todd Ferrara and his companion, Kathy, all of Johnstown; and a stepdaughter, Jenny Hutchins (Shawn) of Gloversville. LaPier is also survived by a sister, Bertha Wagner of Esperance; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Darlene Daurah.
