CRG presents marketing plan to county

JOHNSTOWN - The Fulton County Center for Regional Growth presented its $75,000 marketing plan at the Fulton County Economic Development meeting Tuesday, and the plan showed several new initiatives the CRG will be looking to take.

The Fulton County Board of Supervisors approved a $75,000 contract with the CRG in December with a list of activities the board is expecting them to enact.

Financial problems caused the CRG in October to announce it was dissolving the the Fulton County Economic Development Corp. and the Crossroads Incubator Corp. The CRG is the parent company of both groups.

At the same time, the CRG announced a new Business Development Marketing Plan for the county.

The plan made the CRG more accountable to the county, tripled the county's public taxpayer-funded allocation to the agency to $75,000 for 2013 and allowed appointment of up to four CRG board members by the county Board of Supervisors.

On Tuesday, Mike Reese presented the board with the 2013 marketing plan and broke down where the money was going, including: $20,000 to the marketing professionals at Shannon-Rose Design; $12,000 for website/Internet promotion; $12,000 for business site marketing; $11,000 for business recruitment; $10,000 for community development marketing; and $10,000 for grant initiatives.

Economic Development Board Chairman Michael Gendron was pleased with the CRG's plan.

"I think it's well thought out," Gendron said. "It had input from a lot of professionals, and I think it represents the path that Fulton County needs to go on. I'm very optimistic that it will be successful."

Reese discussed making stronger efforts in website promotion including using more social media avenues.

He said Shannon-Rose Design, based in Saratoga Springs, will create and operate a Facebook page and a monthly blog that will keep the public informed about local businesses, economic development projects and local initiatives.

The company also will create individual and CRG profiles on LinkedIn to develop relationships with site selectors, regional developers and commercial realtors. The CRG's president and CEO also will interact with specialized groups associated with site selectors, regional developers and commercial realtors through the site.

"We're taking a lot of new initiatives," Gendron said. "I think it's a very rigorous plan that if everything works out, it will benefit Fulton County."

The CRG also plans on holding several conferences to meet face to face with these business officials and an economic development symposium and hospitality training seminar to meet with local elected and public officials and organizations.
