CANAJOHARIE - A house on Fredericks Street was destroyed by a fire Friday afternoon, authorities said.
Canajoharie Volunteer Fire Chief Frank Nestle said a call was received Friday about a fire on 380 Fredericks St.
Nestle said there were some complications due to the rural location of the fire, with wind blowing constantly during the fire.
After 45 minutes, Nestle said, volunteers managed to extinguish the fire. Nestle said the only two walls remained once the fire ended.
An investigation team said the fire was caused by a malfunctioning pellet stove.
Melvin Donato, the home owner, was not available for comment. He was not injured during the fire, authorities said.
Nestle said the Donato declined assistance and is staying with friends or family.
