Esther L. Marshall

Mrs. Esther L. Marshall of Gloversville, N.Y., died Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home, Gloversville, N.Y. surrounded by her family. She was 94.

She was born March 24, 1918, in Delanson, N.Y., the daughter of the late Charles Herbert and the late Lulu Sarah Germond Williams.

Esther was married for 50 years to Robert H. "Saxy" Marshall prior to his death on March 23, 1988.

She was a beautician and the owner and operator of Esther's Beauty Shop in Gloversville, N.Y. She also traveled to the homes and nursing homes of her customers when they were unable to travel to the beauty parlor.

A family statement read: "The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home for the wonderful and compassionate care that was extended to Esther over the last year. Everyone who works at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home makes it a wonderful place to live."

Surviving are: her children, Roberta "Tiny" DiMaio and her husband, Guy of Johnstown, Esther "Shorty" Parker of Port Jervis, Karen Grich and her husband, Bob of Gloversville, Arcelia Marshall of Schenectady, Pamela Giuliano and her husband, Joe of Ormond Beach, Fla., Robert Marshall Jr. and his wife, Jo-Ann of Gloversville and Todd Marshall of Schenectady. She is also survived by: a sister, Laville Williams of Owego, N.Y.; and her grandchildren, Merilynda Olmstead, Toni Rooney, Lori Monroe, Darcy DiMaio, Robert Grich Jr., Ann Margaret Javarone, Elizabeth Grich, Shaun Parker, Tanya Parker-Hughes, Jason Martin, Benjamin Marshall, Francesca and Isabella Marshall. Esther also leaves her great-grandchildren, Joseph and Howard Olmstead, Daniel and Elliott Rooney, Julianna and Bradley Sawyer, Maureen Grich, Lauren and Jennifer Javarone, Jessica and Coleman Parker, Connor and Spencer Hughes, and Jason Maximillian Martin. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by: a brother, Al Williams; a sister, Juanita Tierney; her son-in-law, Donald R. Parker; and a daughter-in-law, Marie Marshall.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, with Reverend Bonnie Orth officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon prior to the service. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
