Police: Marijuana in car’s trunk

GLEN - State police said a Utica man was stopped on the Thruway on Friday with more than 1 pound of marijuana in the trunk of a car.

Leroy Delaney, 40, of 1410 Miller St., Utica, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony, and was issued tickets for traffic offenses.

Police said troopers stopped a 2012 Nissan Altima for speeding and not having its headlights on in the rain around 2 p.m. Friday on the Thruway in town. Police said when troopers spoke to the driver, Delaney, they smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle, police said, troopers seized three vacuum sealed bags which contained a total of 21.2 ounces - 1.31 pounds - of marijuana from the trunk.

Delaney was arraigned in Town Court and sent to the Montgomery County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or bond. He is due back in court on Dec. 20 at 2 p.m.
