JOHNSTOWN - An Arizona truck driver who got out of his rig on Route 30A early Wednesday outside the entrance to the Johnstown Industrial Park suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a hit-and-run driver, city police said today.

Sgt. Christopher Stevens said trucker Ralph Weed, 57, of Surprise, Ariz., suffered a lower leg injury and a head contusion from the accident at 4:04 a.m.

Stevens said Weed - operating a truck for Stevens Transport - was taken by ambulance to St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. Hospital spokeswoman Jerri Cortese couldn't be reached for information about the man's status.

The truck driver was believed to be making a delivery to the Walmart Regional Distribution Center, Stevens said.

Weed got out of his tractor-trailer at Route 30A and Opportunity Drive at the entrance to the industrial park for an "unknown" reason, Stevens said.

"He was parked in the median and was going to turn onto Opportunity Drive," Stevens said. "He walked to the rear of the truck."

A southbound white, four-door sedan, possibly a Honda Civic, then struck Weed and continued south on Route 30A.

Stevens said the investigation continues. People can call police at 736-4021 if they have any information, which would be kept confidential.
