James D. Dorney, 79, of Northville, died Saturday, November 24, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam following a long illness. He was born on July 7, 1933, in Troy, New York. Jim was the son of James and Jessie Kipp Dorney. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic Elementary and Troy High School.
He was employed by the New York State Office of General Services, retiring in 1995. He attended St. Francis Church in Northville, New York.
Jim was a Veteran of the Korean War and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
Jim is survived by his sister, Linda Conroy Strack of Petersburg, New York; as well as many nieces and nephews including Cathy Miranda Farrell of Troy, New York and Mark J. Miranda of Johnsonville, New York. Life-long friends Danny and Wilma Mead of Northville, New York also survive him. His sisters, Lillian Dorney Moore and Alta Dorney Sheehy predeceased him.
Friends may call on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at the Gloversville Funeral Service, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville from 11 a.m. to noon, where a funeral service will be held at noon with Father Thomas Morrette as celebrant. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville. Memorial contributions may be made to the James A. Brennan Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville, NY 12078 or any other foundations that help animals.
