AMSTERDAM - Panera Bread will open Dec. 5 at Amsterdam Commons on Route 30.
The eatery offers an extensive menu of bakery items, sandwiches, soups, salads coffee and other beverages.
It also serves antibiotic-free chicken, according to a news release.
The new bakery-cafe will offer free WiFi Internet access.
This Panera location also will feature a drive thru, the first in the Capital Region, according to a news release.
The nearest Panera is located in Saratoga County.

"We are happy to offer the region fresh and wholesome food choices; paired with the convenient service their busy schedules demand. Our concept has been embraced by many surrounding communities in the past 10 years, and we look forward to sharing our signature Panera warmth here in Amsterdam."
A full catering menu will be offered.
As part of the local Community Breadbox program, all cash donations made by customers in all company-owned bakery-cafes in the Capital Region, including the new Amsterdam Commons bakery-cafe, are matched by Panera Bread and distributed to Feeding America.
At the end of each day, Panera Bread also donates all unsold bread and baked goods to local area hunger-relief agencies as part of its local Day-End Dough-Nation program.
The hours of operation for the town location will be 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Panera Bread owns and franchises 1,623 bakery-cafes.
