Mr. Benjamin Agresta Jr., age 98, a longtime resident of Gloversville, died Sunday, November 4, 2012, at Wells Nursing Home, Johnstown.
He was born October 11, 1914, in Amsterdam, the son of the late Benjamin and Costanza Agresta. He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Agresta was employed as a leather worker at the former Fashion Tanning in Gloversville and also as a short order cook at the Palace Diner in both Gloversville and formerly of Johnstown.
He was a bowler, boxer and tennis player.
Mr. Agresta was married on April 12, 1947, to Mary Riska who died April 20, 2012.
Survivors include: two children, Robert Agresta (Sandra) of Old Forge and Carole Gottung (Greg) of Gloversville; three grandchildren, Marshall Gottung (Jessica), Christina Arbogast (Kevin) and Beth Gottung; three great-grandchildren, Chloe Arbogast, Kaley Arbogast and MacKenzie Gottung; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Agresta was predeceased by all three of his brothers, Frank Agresta, Dominick Agresta and Raymond Agresta.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 7, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a prayer service will be conducted at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Gloversville. Interment will take place at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer's Association, Pine West Plaza, Bldg. 4.
