ALTAMONT?- A writer with roots in Fulton County has written a new travel guide geared toward visitors to the Adirondack Park who want their children to get the most out of the region.

The pocket-sized book, "Adirondack Exploration for Kids and Families: History Discovery & Fun,"?is published by The History Press of Charleston, S.C., and retails for $12.99.

"I grew up on a 300-acre dairy farm in Oppenheim, N.Y., Fulton County," said writer Melinda Mackesey. "I'm better known locally as Mindy Hayes. Our family time away from the farm was usually spent on daily excursions to the southern Adirondack lakes and trails."

Mackesey, who now lives in rural Albany County, said after she finished a graduate degree at the College of Saint Rose, she wanted to design a book "for kids and their families ways to explore some of our Adirondack natural sciences, history and just plain fun recreation."

"To me, the Adirondacks has as much beauty to offer as our national parks,"?she said.

The book is sold online and at museums such as the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, the New York State Museum in Albany, the Blue Mountain Lake Museum and the Wild Center in Tupper Lake.
