Cancer services important

October 15, 2012
The Leader Herald

I work in prevention services. The services in my area of prevention have to do with education in the realm of substance abuse and violence.

There is another prevention service that is important to me, as well: The Cancer Services Program of Fulton-Montgomery Counties, which is coordinated by Suzanne Hagadorn at St. Mary's Healthcare.

As a breast cancer survivor, I am living proof of the importance and significance of early detection. I cannot - nor do I want - to imagine what outcomes would result were it not for the thought and continuing efforts at comprehensive cancer screening. The service providers in our community who offer cancer screening and treatment are among the most supportive and caring people I have ever had in my life. To those I hold in my heart for that, I thank you.

There's no doubt fear and anxiety can hold us back from many things - cancer screening is one such "thing." The results of holding on to such fear might only create more and bigger fears ahead, however.

If you have an additional fear because you are uninsured for cancer screening, call Suzanne Hagadorn at 841-3726. These services, along with cancer support and education services are there for you. Our wellness is in our hands, and our service providers are there for us with open arms. Let's join them together to bring as much health and wellness to our community as we can.
