Carol P. Van Evera

Carol P. Van Evera, 62, of Canajoharie, N.Y., passed away on October 10, 2012, at her home with her loving family at her side after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on July 22, 1950, in Queens Village, N.Y., the daughter of Charles Phillip and Edna (Schwamb) Armitstead. She was a 1968 graduate of Cherry Valley Central School and a 1971 graduate of S.U.N.Y. at Oswego. On August 18, 1973, Carol married Bruce Allen Van Evera. She was employed by and retired from Niagara Mohawk (National Grid) after 40 years of service. She was a lifelong member of the Freysbush Lutheran Church and attended the Reformed Church of Canajoharie. She was an avid hiker and enjoyed traveling, visiting 17 different countries. Carol was the owner/operator of Quilt-A-Whirl and enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening. She followed the craft show and antique fair circuit with Bruce for many years. Carol had served as president of the Canajoharie HUD program. Carol was a very loving and giving person who will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce A. Van Evera; daughter, Erin E. Van Evera-Welch (Dale) of Midland, Texas; son, Jacob R. Van Evera (Lydia) of Cobleskill, N.Y.; loving granddaughter, Olivia A. Van Evera; brothers, William (Sarah) Armitstead, Dr. Thomas (Patricia) Armitstead; sister, Ellen (James) Johnson; sister-in-law, Cynthia Armitstead; loving mother, Edna Armitstead; and several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in her journey by her father, C. Phillip Armitstead; and brother, Charles Armitstead.

At Carol's request, she will be cremated and buried in the Cherry Valley Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

A celebration of Carol's life will be held at the Canajoharie Reformed Church, with the Rev. Miriam Barnes officiating, on Sunday, October 14, at 3 p.m.

Memorial donations in Carol's name may be made to the Reformed Church of Canajoharie, to a church of one's choice, or to Mountain Valley Hospice.
