GLOVERSVILLE - Hash Patel, who has eight years of experience as a pharmacist, opened Fulton County's newest independent pharmacy Aug. 6.

The new Gloversville Pharmacy, which includes a supply of vitamins and other over-the-counter products, is located at 42 N. Main St., next to the Gloversville Theatre.

Patel previously worked in both chain and independent pharmacies in central New York.

He also has experience working with the ownership of an independent pharmacy in Walden, Orange County.

When he decided to open his own pharmacy, he said he wanted a downtown location to fill one of the empty storefronts and provide a convenient location for customers.

"Downtowns had more stores years ago," he said. "Plus, I have family around here who said there wasn't a pharmacy downtown since Del Negro closed [in 2008]."

His brother owns some convenience shops in Gloversville, such as Country Farms on South Main Street.

Patel said he hopes to hire three to four people in the next few months.

Right now he has a driver on call who can deliver prescriptions.

"We can do delivery six days a week," he said.

The delivery service is free.

He offers several other programs, including a baby aspirin or multivitamin club in which customers receive a 30-day supply of either item free each month.

The RX Savings Club offers supplies of certain prescriptions for $2.99.

Patel also offers compounding prescriptions including foot cream, topical cream, oral gargles, liquids and more.

He said subscriptions are ready within minutes, and he offers a personal touch by being there to consult with customers.

The pharmacy accepts all major insurances and offers easy transfer of prescriptions. Payments for National Grid, Frontier and other bills can be made at the store.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
