Economy still not pretty

April 3, 2013

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke issued a not-so-gentle reminder recently in explaining the Federal Open Market Committee’s decision to stand pat, again, on artificially very low interest rate....

Drugs, Yes I agree that some people only believe what they want to. The right may trash Matthews and Obermann, but only listen to Hannity and Limbaugh!...and vice versa, with the left trashing the right. The trick is finding an unbiased source, one with no agenda...where there is usually some common ground.

White House press secretary Jay Carney shifted position and accepted sequester paternity.

“The sequester was something that was discussed,” Carney said. Walking back the earlier statements, he added carefully, “and as has been reported, it was an idea that the White House put forward.”

This was an acknowledgment that the president and Lew had been wrong.

In fact, the final deal reached between Vice President Biden and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in 2011 included an agreement that there would be no tax increases in the sequester in exchange for what the president was insisting on: an agreement that the nation’s debt ceiling would be increased for 18 months, so Obama would not have to go through another such negotiation in 2012, when he was running for reelection.

laker, but some people only believe what they want to. Stats and numbers that contradict thier beliefs are deemed lies by the other side. There are those who think that because the stock market is on the rise all is wonderful. There is lots of real news stories that the lame stream media won't cover because they don't fit with thier agenda or the spin the administrtion is putting out.

When quoting specific stats/#'s, I try to include the source, and if I don't and someone asks me for it, I'm glad to supply it. But some on here seem very "paranoid" when asked about the source, often replying with a cynical/condescending comment...which only raises more questions about the accuracy of their statements.

Another stimulus bill laden with pork spending that Chuck Schumer says Americans do not care about is being pushed, even during the sequester? I find it hard to believe that Americans could again be fooled into it! "The time for talk has passed," Obama said. The president's travel to pitch the urgency of the stimulus plan was his third day in a row to leave Washington. On Thursday, he goes to Peoria, Ill., to visit a Caterpillar manufacturing plant. The world's largest maker of mining and construction machinery announced more than 22,000 job cuts last month amid waning demand for its products. That was supposed to be alieveiated buy all the past flushes of taxpayer money! The 2009 stimulus package failed miserably to produce the promised results. "But even if you buy the White House's argument that the $800 billion package created 3 million jobs, that works out to $266,000 per job. I believe that the private sector would do a MUCH better job at much lower cost!

It's amazing how Liberals insist on comments from conservatives when it is painfully obvious that when we do they reject what we say as "hearsay", "fabricated" or from an "unreliable source". I suggest that you post to what you want, ask if you feel the need for help and let others reply to the posts that they find interesting. One other thought while we are on the posting etiquette, we used to have a free hand at posting to every article here at the leader web site. That has gone away and we are down to a few topics a week that we are still allowed to give our opinions on. In my opinion this is because of some posters attacking the individuals covered within the articles, as well as some very vulgar profanity. I call on all my fellow posters to rein in the personal attacks as well as the propensity to allude to or even spell out profanities. Some readers may be young and even if they are not it does not add anything to your post, lets keep it clean!

It's amazing how people can be so oblivious to the fact that the wealthy elite keep getting wealthier at the expense of the middle class, which continues to shrink. And just where/how can the average guy on salary "squirrel" away anything where the IRS can't touch it??? I've worked hard, owned and sold a successful business, and fortunately live well...I feel bad for those blue collar workers, struggling to support their families, while the millionaires/billionaires club continues to prosper through tax loopholes, off shore shelters etc etc etc....

Things just keep getting worse for the American worker, and by implication US economy, where as we have shown many times before, it pays just as well to sit back and collect disability and various welfare and entitlement checks, than to work .The best manifestation of this: the number of people not in the labor force which in March soared by a massive 663,000 to a record 90 million Americans who are no longer even looking for work.

TiredOfTax thinks $400,000 is 'largesse' versus the several millions of dollars in bonuses Wall Street'ers give themselves.

ToT: you probably did not know this, but the President doesn't dictate his salary, nor can he give himself a raise. Congress does that.

Wall Street'ers actually CAN give themselves raises and send it offshore to not be taxed.

That's largesse, you fool.

TiredOfTax, it should be noted that just yesterday, a data leak revealed what is estimated at $21 TRILLION dollars in offshore bank assets.

That's 21 with 12 zeroes after it. Enough to put a massive dent in the trade deficit if only we could tax it.

I thought that the world was supposed to fall in love the minute Obama was elected? We have seen steadily declining approval of the US throughout the world an Mr. PeacePrize has us on the verge of a nuclear war... I can feel the love and admiration exude from the world. And soon that warm nuclear glow will overtake much of the world. You just can't help but be proud can you?

To put that in perspective, tax records show the President and First Lady made $790,000 in 2011 alone. Obama's overall net worth reportedly stands at a whopping $12 million. But don't worry about any that stuff. Focus on the fact that his largesse has compelled him to give back a staggering $20,000 of his $400,000 paycheck. The left has spent a lot of time calling conservatives "petty" for pointing out how worthless this is, but now an unlikely ally has emerged. None other than the leftist, statist, gun-control guru, Piers Morgan, thinks this display of humility and grace is a big fat waste of time. "If he actually gave up the holidays," Morgan points out, "If he gave up the vacations which are costing the taxpayer hundreds of thousands or dollars, it might have more impact than 5% of 400,000."
