We need to make changes to help people survive

In dealing with the state’s budget crisis due to the COVID-19 epidemic, I agree raising the taxes on the uber rich would drive them out.

Cutting spending is what families would do but not by starving the children — like with schools and countries.

I would raise the minimum wage to $20 an hour. That would get some off social welfare rolls, turn them into income taxpayers, and give them discretionary income with which to spend. I once met a sales clerk who said the only clothes she bought was at the Salvation Army.

The irony of life is that the worst jobs pay the least. Jobs most of us would not care to perform nor even be able to.
