Return the rims and restore fun and humanity to city
My heart was crushed the other night. Visiting with my parents for several weeks now, I have enjoyed watching the 15-20 teenage boys and girls enjoying evening basketball at the State Street court, Johnstown.
On Friday night (July 31) I saw that both rims had been removed. How sad. Such a fun and needed outlet for the youth of our town has been dismantled.
I hope both the city and the state realize the untold harm they are doing to these youngsters. Teenagers need recreation, fun, camaraderie, exercise, sunshine. Taking down the rims is like a slap in the face to a younger generation that has a greater chance of being struck by lightning than being infected by the flu.
The state response to a seasonal flu is not about our health; it is about our government dehumanizing its citizens so as to exert greater control over every aspect of our lives.
It’s time to return the rims and restore some fun and humanity back into our city.
