Mayor Jackson: Please vote ‘yes’ on school budget
This letter is to the residents of the city of Johnstown and those others who are part of the Johnstown School District.
Both the city Common Council and I urge passage of the proposed school district budget.
One of the most important factors a city, town or village needs is a sound, stable and comprehensive school district.
We have met with business owners looking to possibly locate here and also with private citizens looking to raise their failies in a smaller community setting, one of the first topics discussed is “what is your school system like?”
As parents who have either raised our children or have children in the school system, we are in agreement that Johnstown schools have provided a complete and comprehensive curriculum. They have allowed the students to pursue learning paths not available in many other schools districts.
It’s understandable that to provide this type of educational environment, it costs more money each year. This has become normal throughout the country. As the saying goes, “you get what you pay for.” To reduce to a contingency budget can cause irreparable harm from which could take years to recover from, if ever.
Please consider voting yes on the budget so the district can continue to provide the skills and knowledge our children need to take into adulthood. Remember, these are our future leaders.
Finally, contratulations to the class of 2020, and good luck in your future endeavors.
MAYOR VERNON F. JACKSON
Member of Johnstown Common Council
