Time to go 100 percent clean energy

Up with 100 percent clean energy. That’s right, electricity run by solar, wind, water, tidal, and geothermal power. This should be cheaper. It cuts out the middle man — the fossil fuel companies that spend money to mine it, transport it, to a plant, then burn it to create electricity. Clean energy is converted directly from its natural source, no mining, transport, or burning, all of which use energy and send carbon dioxide into the atmosphere as a greenhouse gas. We need to do this, and we need to do it soon. Science tells us that we have 10 to 12 years before we are in deep trouble with global warming. Unchecked, earth’s temperature could rise by 3.6 degrees F by 2030, well within the lifetime of your children.

This means converting our homes to electric heat and cooking, and converting our cars to electricity. It took about 20 years to go from horse and buggy to gasoline-powered vehicles. We have the technology, we can do this.

Meanwhile, conservation is key. If we all work together, we can make a difference. And during elections, pay close attention to what the candidates intend to do about global warming. Also, participate in the student-led climate strikes on Sept 20.

Please, do this for the future of your children, because if we don’t work towards 100 percent clean energy as soon as possible, then your children may not have a future.
