Cheers and Jeers

CHEERS — To the first Mayfield Christmas Parade on Saturday. The village pulled together the holiday event and it was well-attended by many, including people from areas outside of Mayfield. The festivities, which included Mayor Jamie Ward reading “T’was the Night Before Christmas”, music and a tree lighting was a fun time for area residents who took part in the festivities. We are looking forward to next year’s festivities.

CHEERS — To the historical marker and its placement for Kirk Douglas in Amsterdam. Douglas, who rose from poor and humble roots in the city to become a renowned actor starring in more than 90 films, always remembered his roots, returning to the area when he was able to travel and visiting the city. The marker, placed in a visible location instead of on a dead-end street where Douglas grew up, will draw more people in to look at it and the city.

CHEER — To the incentive to bring back Railfest. Canceled in 2018 because of a lack of volunteers, Railfest is a much-anticipated event by city residents, many who walk to Rail Station Park to enjoy the festivities. We are pleased that Fouth Ward Supervisor Charlie Ward is taking the initiative now, rather than later, to start the wheels turning to ensure this fun festival happens in 2019.
