Caroline Maryanopolis, 96, of South Kingsboro Ave., Gloversville passed away Saturday July 31, 2021, at Wells Nursing Home, Johnstown.
She was born in Gloversville on October 30, 1924, a daughter of Peter and Rose Gentile Pecorino and was a 1942 graduate of Gloversville High School. Caroline was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Maryanopolis was affiliated with New York Lunch in Gloversville, which was established in 1934 by her father-in-law, Gus. Caroline’s husband, Daniel, and his sister, Mary Cerrato joined their father in the business in 1953. After Gus died in 1962, New York Lunch was operated by Dan and Caroline Maryanopolis and Mary Cerrato. In 1968, the restaurant relocated to its current location and is still in operation today. After Daniel’s death, she worked at Coleco Industries in Mayfield, Somerset, and MCA in Gloversville.
Caroline was of the Catholic faith and was very devoted to prayer.
She enjoyed reading and caring for her family. Caroline loved spending time with family and friends and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was married to Daniel Maryanopolis on November 22, 1951. Sadly, he died June 15, 1973. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents.
Survivors include five children, John (Debbie) Maryanopolis, Ed (Lisa) Maryanopolis, Jim (Sue) Maryanopolis, Tina (Dave) Newland, and Patricia (Jerry) Springfield; twelve grandchildren, John Jr., Danny, Amanda, Kim, Laura, Elise, Jennifer, Nick, Lacie, Matthew, Heather, and Joe; thirteen great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Alyssa, Alena, Chloe, Lauren, Jaden, Cole, Bella, Everett, Wyatt, Colin, Brody, and Emerson; and an extended family member, Gail Freeman.
Private services will be held for the family. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
