Dr. Daniel J. Greco
Dr. Daniel J. Greco, age 93, of Amsterdam, died June 15, 2021, at River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam.
He was born March 20, 1928, in Amsterdam, the son of Mr. Anthony Greco and Mrs. Anna Castallano Greco. He attended and graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School, the class of 1946, before his honorable service during WW II in the United States Army from 1946 to 1948.
After his service, Dr. Greco graduated from Siena College, he earned masters degrees from Siena College and Union College as well as his Doctorate in Education from the State University of New York at Albany. He also studied at Syracuse University and Colgate University. Dr. Greco started his career as a science teacher at Theodore Roosevelt Junior High School in Amsterdam, and later taught math at Lynch High School. He served the district as an administrative assistant, director of personnel and assistant superintendent before serving as the Superintendent of Schools for the Greater Amsterdam School District for over 11 years, retiring in 1990.
Daniel was united in holy matrimony to Ms. Jennie Ottati on June 18, 1950; they remained lovingly married for over 60 years until her passing in 2011.
He had been a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church.
He is survived by his sons, Anthony D. (Rebecca) Greco of Versailles, KY, and Robert P. (Barbara) Greco of Medford, NJ; as well as his sister, Olga Greco. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Anna; wife, Jennie; his brother, Louis Greco; and sister, Sophie Ferrara.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, June 19, 2021, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. A service of remembrance will take place on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Funeral Home. Interment will take place at St Mary’s Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Heart Association or to the Arkell Hall Foundation Scholarship at Siena College.
