Gene F. Edwards
Gene F. Edwards, 83, a lifelong area resident of Gloversville, passed away unexpectedly April 10 following a brief illness; in the comfort of his home. Born October 31, 1937, to Franklin H. Edwards and Marilyn L. Weaver of Edinburgh, NY. Gene went on to attend Northville Central School.
He served as a foreman on the I-87 North-South project, one of his most memorable jobs. Gene has helped and advocated for free NYS services for camping experiences and is commonly known as the “Northway.” He was a foreman on the job. Gene then went on to haul logs for several logging companies throughout his career. Gene worked for several years for Paul Bradt, at the ‘gravel pits’. Shortly after that, his most passionate and rewarding job would come — at a golf course. He owned the Alpine Inn, outside of Wells, NY. He enjoyed many years at the Sacandaga Golf Course.
Gene genuinely enjoyed mowing the greens and fine cuts and all aspects in maintaining the course. He became an avid golfer; loving the game, its challenges and went on to win many fun memorable tournaments all throughout his golfing years in various manners and matches. As well as winning many tournaments, leagues etc.; he always loved a vigorously play. Gene, in his later years, truly was grateful and enjoyed his job employed by a Green Thumb, a parks maintenance caretaker for all areas enjoyed, needed, safely, and neatly.
Gene is survived by his loving wife and life partner for over 20 years, Judy (Robinson)-(Wilson) Edward, children, Amber Jensen, Peter Edwards and Celene Frasier (John); stepchildren, Fred, Mark and Ryan Wilson; cherished grandchildren, Russell, Wesley, and Tyler Jensen; Ryan, Patrick and Ian Edwards, Jayaden Hensen, Peter Edwards and Cleve Frasier(John). Also, cherished grandchildren, Rus Wesley, Tyler Jensen, Jayden, Marcus and Wilson, Isaiah and Cameron Wilson. Gene has several great-grandchildren and his loyal canine companion whom both much loved the “companion,” his dog ‘Pepper’. He is predecease by not only his parents, Franklin and Marion; his wife Edda and his son Gene ‘Butch’, Jr. He was beloved by his family and friends of which he had many.
Gene’s family invites relatives and friends to attend a brief calling period from 2 to 3 p.m. at Ehle & Barnett Family Funeral Home, LLC; 15 N. William Street, Johnstown, NY 12095, to be immediately following with with a brief, and honorable Memorial Service for Mr. Edwards. There will be no formal public graveside services.
Please adhere to all CDC guidelines for everyone’s safety as it will be enforced strictly by the funeral home staff. No public graveside service will be held, at Gene’s request.
