Donald F. ‘Suckin’Don’ Weiderman
Donald F. “Suckin’Don” Weiderman, 73, of Union Mills Road, Broadalbin, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady.
He was born at home in the village of Broadalbin, on February 8, 1948, a son of Floyd and Lorraine Austin Weiderman and was a lifelong area resident. Don was educated in local schools.
Mr. Weiderman owned and operated Union Mills Auto in Broadalbin for more than 30 years. After he retired, Don pursued his hobby and operated Got Wood Saw Mill for ten years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1971. Don was a 21-year member of the American Legion, Post 337 in Broadalbin.
He enjoyed four-wheeling and trail riding with his side-by-side. Mostly, he loved spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Susan, Lynn, and Amanda.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Austin Weiderman, whom he married on July 4, 1971; two children, Douglas D. (Liz Morreale) Weiderman and Christina M. (Mark) Johnston, all of Amsterdam; eight siblings, David (Deana), Jane, Karen, Phil, Betsy, Jeffrey, Margaret, and Glenn; five grandchildren, Brandon and Zachary Weiderman, and Sydney, Madison, and Gabriel Johnston; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 111 County Highway 106 (corner of Route 29 and Black Street), Johnstown. Military honors will be rendered at 7 p.m. In accordance with current health guidelines, facial covering and social distancing are required.
