John Gardner Burd
John Gardner Burd, age 55, passed away suddenly at his home, November 11, 2020.
He was born in Schenectady, NY on August 24, 1965. He is the son of Edwina Burd and the late James Burd. He attended Gloversville High School, Fulton-Montgomery Community College and Cayuga Community College.
Johnny was a kind and gentle soul who always put his mother on a pedestal. She was a constant in his life and a touchstone whenever he needed grounding and someone to talk with as a friend.
He recently moved back to the area from Santa Barbara, California where he worked for Goodwill Industries and Pro Garden Supply, until the onset of the COVID crisis. Gardner was a free spirit, who at the tender age of 18, threw caution to the wind and hitchhiked across the country from Gloversville, NY to San Francisco, California. This journey was the foundation for all his future life endeavors, which gave him the confidence to just pack up a go. He was also an avid guitar player and song writer. He picked up the guitar at 12 years old and never looked back. His love for music can be heard in his recordings. Before he left us, he was working on a few screenplays and had enough music in his repertoire, recording a full album was an aspiration. Creativity was an outlet that brought him joy and allowed him to express himself in his purest form.I invite you to listen to a couple of tracks he wrote and composed; they can be found at https://soundcloud.com/gardner-burd. Gardner also had the gift of being a great storyteller. His ability to take over a room when spinning a yarn left everyone at the edge of their seat until he was finished, a quality that was subtle, yet a force to be reckoned with, and admired.
Creativity was an outlet that brought him joy and allowed him to express himself in his purest form. He will be remembered fondly for all these qualities, as well as his witty, and sometimes twisted sense of humor (which was all part of his charm), as well as his infectious laugh.
Survivors include his mother, Edwina Burd of Schenectady, his children Katie, Brahm, and Karina, sisters, Lisa Burd, Kathryn Brindle, and Rebecca Burd. He is also survived by many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and a gaggle of cousins.
He was predeceased by his father James Burd; and his grandmother Louise Hopkins Albanese.
A private family service will be held. To leave condolence messages for John’s family please visit agcolefuneralhome.com.
