Mary Ellen Smrtic
Mary Ellen Smrtic, age 75, of Johnstown, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 22, 2020, at the Mountain Valley Hospice House in Gloversville, NY, with her loving family by her side.
She was born on November 12, 1944, in Gloversville, a daughter of the late Earl Savage and Margaret Loucks Savage.
Mary was a graduate of Northville Central School. She was employed by many local businesses including the former Johnstown Hotel and Holiday Inn as a housekeeper. She also worked in the textile industry at the former Johnstown Knitting Mill and the Grandoe Corporation. Mary was last employed as a bus aide for the Greater Johnstown School District, which she loved most of all.
Mary and the love of her life, Louis J. Smrtic were married on December 19, 1970. They raised two children together, Phillip and Karen, and resided as a family in Johnstown, NY, where Mary continued her life after the unfortunate passing of Louis on March 24, 1980.
Mary loved all children as her own, welcoming many into her home with open arms over the years as a caring foster parent and babysitter.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Louis J. Smrtic; her three brothers, Jimmy Savage, Earl “Skip” Savage, Eddie Savage; and one sister, Pam Martin, all of whom we know she has been gloriously reunited with for all time.
She is survived by her son, Phillip W. Smrtic; and her daughter, Karen Bellinger (John). She will be forever missed by her grandchildren, Jacklynn Lentini (Eric), Bodie Bellinger, Broc Bellinger; her great-granddaughter, Gracie Lentini; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial visitation for family and friends will be prior to the service on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown, NY.
A memorial service will be conducted directly after at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., with Dr. Reverend R.W. Williams officiating.
