John L. Subik Jr., 88, of Mayfield, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2020, at his residence with his family around him.

He was born in Johnstown on April 9, 1931, the son of the late John L. Subik and Anna V. Hladik Subik.

John was a class of 1949 graduate of Johnstown High School. He was employed on the family dairy farm until a back injury spurred him into a new profession. He then started in the insurance field. The bulk of his career was spent as a real estate broker and he started his own firm, specializing in the sale of farms. He was also a real estate appraiser. John’s faith was very important to him and he was of the Catholic faith, a communicant of the former St. Anthony’s Church, now Holy Trinity Church in Johnstown. John was a lifetime member of the Johnstown Moose and bowled for many years with the Fonda- Johnstown Men’s Bowling League. He was a talented athlete, playing sports in high school and enjoyed watching football. He liked hunting and fishing. He loved to read and was always keeping up on current events. Over the years he looked forward to breakfast with his buddies. He was happiest having his family around him. He had a great sense of humor, which he has passed on to his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by five sons, Steven Subik (Deb), John Subik (Pam), Andrew Subik (Judy), Paul Subik (Cherie) and Jeffrey Subik (Jeb); six daughters, Eileen Wheeler (John), Lynn Gobeil (Don), Kathleen Heller (Michael), Patricia Reilly, Ann Aulita (Tom) and Klee Subik (Dennis); 26 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Subik was predeceased by his wife, Sonia P. Subik, whom he married on May 26, 1951, and who passed on May 27, 2015; one grandson, Andrew Subik; and one son-in-law, John Reilly.

Private graveside services will be conducted at the convenience of the family. A memorial mass for Mr. Subik will be held at a later date at Holy Trinity Church, 205 Glebe Street, Johnstown.
