Doris M. Smith

Doris M. Smith, 82, of Johnstown, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center with her family by her side.

She was born in Poughkeepsie on March 19, 1937, a daughter of the late Emerson and Marion Fisher Miles.

Doris worked for many years as a self-employed housekeeper. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Scotch Bush. Mrs. Smith was a past President of the R.G.L. Fire Department Auxiliary. Doris enjoyed cooking and was known for her delicious homemade rolls. She was a avid reader of Amish books and romance books from the Johnstown Library and also collected white milk glass over the years.

She is survived by three sons, Steven Clyde Smith of Johnstown, John Paul Smith (Nancy) of Scotch Bush and Edward Emerson Smith (Mary) of Liverpool; one daughter, Julie Cody (Dennis) of Dolgeville; two brothers, Ron Miles (Cathy) of St. Johnsville and Fred Miles of Poughkeepsie; two sisters, Peggy Miles of St. Johnsville and Linda Welch of St. Johnsville; four grandchildren, Megan Smith, Tommy Smith, Amber Beau and Hailey Howe; five great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Natalie, Darian, Daphney and Jackson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Doris wanted to thank Patty Johnson, Jane Hall, Lanny Orr and Larry Keller for their friendship and support.

In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by her husband, Clyde Smith, whom she married in 1954 and who passed in 2008.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 East Main St., Johnstown.

Visitation for family and friends will be prior to the funeral service on Wednesday, February 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Fical Cemetery, Lassellsville in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Doris’ memory may be made to the R.G.L. Volunteer Fire Company, 5786 State Highway 29, St. Johnsville, New York 13452.
