Reginald B. Ropeter

Reginald B. Ropeter, age 70, of Johnstown, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2020, at his residence with his loving family by his side.

He was born on August 24, 1949, in Gloversville, a son of the late Robert Ropeter and Blanche Veeder Ropeter.

Reginald was a class of 1967 graduate of Johnstown High School. He honorably served his country as an Operations Specialist Petty Officer 2nd Class in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1973. Mr. Ropeter was employed for many years as a Senior Draftsman at General Electric in Schenectady, retiring in November of 2005. Reginald enjoyed attending car shows and entering his 2002 Pontiac Firebird in judging. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR races and attending his grandson’s sporting events.

Mr. Ropeter is survived by his wife, Barbara Smith Ropeter, whom he married on November 20, 1971; two daughters, Wendy Ropeter Pedersen of Johnstown and Michelle Ropeter Lewis (David) of Delaware; two brothers, Richard Ropeter of Gloversville and Robert Ropeter; one grandson, Zachary Reginald Pedersen; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2020, at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown, with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating.

Visitation for friends and family will be on Thursday prior to the service from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment with military honors will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
