Florence E. Shaffer, age 86, of Johnstown, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at the Wells Nursing Home.

She was born on April 12, 1933, in Bay Shore, New York, a daughter of the late Wesley Mason and Florence Horlocher Mason.

Mrs. Shaffer was a graduate of Bay Shore High School. She worked at various locations in her early years until she met her husband, the late Donald E. Shaffer and raised her loving family. Florence was of the Protestant faith, a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Brentwood. She was also a member of the National Campers and Hikers Association.

Mrs. Shaffer is survived by one son, Glenn Shaffer and his companion Barbara Leduc of Lehigh Acres, Florida; two daughters, Donna Hayes and her husband David Sr. of Canajoharie and Karen Dotterweich and her husband James of Max Meadows, Virginia; one brother, George Mason; one sister, Lorraine Schichtl; five grandchildren, Heather O’Field (Joseph), Britney Schlesier (Paul Greco), Amanda Ambrosino (Brandon), Bryan Schlesier (Ali Palmer) and Brett Schlesier; four great-grandchildren, Theo Isaac Ambrosino, Cooper Isaiah Ambrosino, Colt Ian Ambrosino and Emery Greco; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Florence was predeceased by her husband, Donald E. Shaffer, whom she married in 1956 and who passed on January 29, 2014; four brothers, Arthur Kohles, Edward Kohles, Wesley Mason and Eugene Mason; and two infant siblings.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, 2019, at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown, with the Rev. Alan Cunningham officiating.

Visitation for friends and family will be on Monday prior to the service from 1 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
