Nelson Henry ‘Niles’ Cruise
Nelson Henry “Niles” Cruise, 89, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, in Clinton, NY.
Born in New London, on July 18, 1929, to Olive (Spencer) and William E. Cruise Sr., he is survived by his three children, Eric Cruise of Poland, N.Y., Jennifer Cruise of St. Paul, Minn. and Karla Cruise of South Bend, Ind.; and two grandsons, Ethan and Erik Sauer. His brother, William E. (Bill) Cruise, resides in Groton, and Palmetto, Fla.
Niles’ wife of 52 years, Donna (Stevens) Cruise, died in 2007.
Niles graduated from Chapman Technical High School in New London and attended the University of Connecticut. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army (1951 to 1954) and served in the Counter Intelligence Corps (CIC) in Okinawa, Japan. After his military service, he worked as a customer service manager at Sears in Gloversville, N.Y. and at Coleco Industries in Mayfield and Amsterdam, N.Y. Niles enjoyed reading, camping in the Adirondacks, and everything related to boats.
A remembrance event will be held in the spring.
