Mr. John W. Tyler, age 69, of Broadalbin, passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at River Ridge Living Center, Amsterdam after a very long illness.

He was born on June 23, 1947. in Gloversville, the son of the late J. Warren Tyler and Kittie M. DeLavergne Tyler.

Mr. Tyler was a class of 1966 graduate of Gloversville High School and attended Fulton-Montgomery Community College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, honorably serving from 1967 to 1971, attaining the rank of sergeant. He later served in the New York Army National Guard.

John was a member of the North Main Street United Methodist Church. He was formerly employed by General Electric, Coleco, MCA and retired from N.A. Taylor in 1996 due to his illness and disability. He was a former member of the Lazy 8 RC Club and a founding member of the former Adirondack Model RC Boat Club. He enjoyed woodworking and outdoor activities. Mr. Tyler was a New York Yankees and New York Giants fan. He also was an avid auto racing fan and enjoyed all types of auto racing. In the mid 1970s, he drove his own late model stock car at Fonda Speedway.

Mr. Tyler is survived by his wife, Mary Cellary Tyler of Broadalbin, whom he married on November 21, 1990; two sons, Christopher J. Tyler of Mayfield and Cody M. Tyler of Broadalbin; one brother, William Tyler of Gloversville; one sister, Lissa Tyler Shamburg (Fred) of Plainville, Connecticut; one brother-in-law, Albert Cellary; one sister-in-law, Mary Cellary; two grandchildren, Brandon and Maya; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Joe Cellary.

There will be no calling hours.

A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Johnstown.

Memorial contributions in John’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher Street, Johnstown.
