Woman charged with contraband

JOHNSTOWN — Shadiqua Grant, 23, of Rochester was charged with second-degree promoting prison contraband and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance by state police on Sunday.

Troopers said Grant was charged following an incident at the Hale Creek Correctional Facility, 279 Maloney Road.

Ga. woman charged with drug possession

GLEN — A Georgia woman was arrested and charged after state police said she was found to be in possession of cocaine and 3 pounds of marijuana.

Schenekqua L. Carter, 41, of Toccoa, Ga. was charged with two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana and second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, over 16 oz., a felony, by state police on Saturday.

Troopers said Carter was charged following a traffic stop of a vehicle she was in on the state Thruway eastbound in the town for a vehicle and traffic violation.

Upon interviewing the occupants, probable cause to search the vehicle was established. The passenger, Carter, was found to be in possession of approximately 1.1 grams of cocaine and 3 pounds of marijuana.

Carter was arraigned before the Town Court and remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond. A return court date of Thursday has been set.
