Active bench warrant leads to man’s arrest

MOHAWK — Brian Scott Powell, 51, of 6 First St., was charged by Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies on Sept. 15 on a bench warrant for failure to pay a fine.

Powell was charged after the sheriff’s office was made aware of a bench warrant issued in 2013. A sheriff’s deputy located Powell at his residence and made the arrest.

He was arraigned in Mohawk Town Court and remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on $500 cash bail or $5,000 bail bond. Powell is scheduled to appear in Mohawk Town Court on a later date.

Two charged in Smitty’s burglary

JOHNSTOWN — Two Gloversville residents were charged this week by city police in connection with a Sept. 6 burglary at Smitty’s Service Station, 201 W. State St.

Police said David T. Doak, 29, of 42 First Ave., and Kurtis T. Fuller, 21, of 10 Jay St., were each charged with: third-degree burglary, a felony; and petit larceny, a misdemeanor.

The Johnstown Police Department’s Patrol Division conducted an investigation into a burglary at 4:05 a.m. Sept. 6 Smitty’s. The investigation and video images retrieved from multiple sources allowed officers to identify Doak and Fuller as suspects. They were both incarcerated at the Fulton County Jail on burglary charges from another agency’s case at the time of the Johnstown arrests.

Police said Doak and Fuller will appear Oct. 1 in City Court.
