Man charged with killing neighbor’s dog

ROOT — On Friday, state police charged 47-year-old Daniel Johnson of Root with class E felony of aggravated cruelty to animals.

Troopers said Johnson was charged after an investigation revealed that he shot and killed a neighbor’s dog after he allegedly said he had mistaken it for a coyote.

Johnson was issued an appearance ticket for Root Town Court to return on Sept. 9 at 4 p.m.

Man arrested on child porn charges

PROVIDENCE — Alan P. Gottschald, 71, of Providence was charged on Friday with class D felony promoting a sexual performance by a child and the class E felony possessing a sexual performance by a child.

Gottschald was arraigned in the Providence Town Court where he posted bail and was scheduled to return on Sept. 23 at 7 p.m.

Man charged with pot possession

AMSTERDAM — Jose L. Rivera, 45, of Amsterdam was charged by state police on Friday with second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana.

Man facing drunk driving charges

BROADALBIN — Darrick M. Riddell, 32, of Watervliet was charged by state police on Friday with driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated.

Man facing unlicensed, DWAI

GLOVERSVILLE — Darryl J. Playford, 29, of Gloversville was charged by state police on Saturday with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and driving while ability impaired, combined drugs and alcohol.

Playford was arraigned and released in his own recognizance.

First-degree unlicensed charge

AMSTERDAM — Tiffany T. Smith, 34, of Amsterdam was charged by state police on Saturday with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a class E felony.

Smith was held for arraignment.

Man accused of strangling victim

PROVIDENCE — Brian K. Fogg, 60, of Providence was charged by state police on Saturday with criminal obstruction of breathing, second-degree harassment with physical contact and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Fogg was held on cash bail.

Driver facing variety of charges

ROTTERDAM — Michelle R. Taylor, 34, of Amsterdam was charged by state police on Aug. 26 with two counts of having a controlled substance not in its original container, two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, speeding in a posted zone and having a back seat passenger between the ages of four to six without proper restraint.

Taylor was released on appearance tickets.

Fugitive from justice arrested

NORTHAMPTON — Brenda L. Cross, 51, of Gloversville was charged by state police on Aug. 26 with being a fugitive from justice from another state and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
