Man allegedly hits, chokes victim

FONDA –28-year-old Shawn J. Arnold of Fonda was charged by state police with several offenses July 31 following an investigation into a domestic dispute.

Upon arrival, police said they were met by a bloody-faced man who told them that his assaulter was still in the home.

Troopers said Arnold had choked the man and punched him in the face repeatedly. He had also allegedly physically struck a female at the residence and committed the acts in the presence of a 4-year-old child. Arnold, when confronted by troopers, physically resisted arrest, they said.

Arnold was charged with third-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, second-degree criminal obstruction of governmental administration, resisting arrest, second-degree harassment with physical contact and endangering the welfare of a child.


He was arraigned in the Mohawk Town Court and remanded to Montgomery County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.

Couple arrested for theft of excavator

PERTH — State police at Mayfield were called to H&M Equipment on Route 30 for a reported theft of a Yanmar excavator valued at $55,000.

Troopers said the investigation revealed that the excavator had been rented by Matthew and Amber Burke but that they had failed to return it. Arrest warrants were issued charging both with second-degree grand larceny.

Amber Burke, 29, of Clifton Park was arrested on July 25. She was arraigned in the Perth Town Court andremanded to the Fulton County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. She has since made bail and was released.

The excavator was returned to H&M on July 26 missing some equipment.

Matthew Burke, 34, of Duanesburg, was located and arrested Thursday and charged with second-degree grand larceny. He was arraigned in the Perth Town Court where he posted bail and was released to his attorney.

Both are due to reappear in court at a later date.

Man charged for

stealing bike, resisting

JOHNSTOWN — David W. Hassler III, 22, of 211 W. State St., was charged by city police at 11:31 a.m. Monday with petit larceny and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors.

Police said Hassler was charged on Water Street in connection with an offense at 5:07 p.m. July 27. Police said he allegedly stole a bicycle from a residence. On July 30, the suspect was seen riding the stolen bicycle by an officer. After contact, Hassler attempted to flee and resisted arrest, police said.

He will appear later in City Court.

Teen charged with criminal mischief

JOHNSTOWN — Pacey R. Wilson, 17, of 76 Sewell St., Lake George, was charged by city police at 10:49 p.m. Sunday with misdemeanor fourth-degree criminal mischief.

Police said he was charged stemming from an offense at 11:13 p.m. June 15 at Speedway on Route 30A.

Police said Wilson got into an argument with another man, and allegedly used a hammer to break the rear driver side window of the victim’s vehicle. He then fled the scene, police said.

Wilson will appear later in City Court.
