BROADALBIN — Three people were injured — with one transported to Albany — in a three-vehicle accident at 3:45 p.m. Monday on Route 29 at County Highway 138 in the town of Broadalbin.

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office said SUV driver Joseph O. Connor, 69, of 326 Lincoln Place, Brooklyn, complained of pain to his entire body and was transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Deputies said Darwin N. Rice Jr., 62, operator of a tractor-trailer for Walmart Transportation of Pauls Valley, Okla. was also injured, but not taken to a hospital.

The other driver — William S. Kline, 56, of 422 Fayville Road, Galway — was driving a flatbed truck for Bill Kline Acres Corp. of Galway. He suffered a head injury and was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam.

A report provided by Sheriff Richard Giardino indicated that Connor was traveling south on County Highway 138. He allegedly failed to yield the right of way to the Walmart truck in an attempt to get in front of Kline’s vehicle. Deputies said Rice’s Walmart truck was traveling west on Route 29 and struck the Connor vehicle before he lost steering, striking Kline’s vehicle, which was eastbound on Route 29.

Deputies said the Connor vehicle then continued in a ditch on the westbound lane of Route 29, and the Walmart truck and flatbed truck were on top of each other on a berm on the shoulder of the eastbound lane.

The report said charges are pending.
