GJSD budget vote set
JOHNSTOWN — The Greater Johnstown School District residents can vote on the 2021-2022 school budget and board of education elections from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 18, in the lobby of the Johnstown Junior-Senior High School. Face masks must be worn and social distancing guidelines observed in school buildings.
The GJSD residents who want to cast a ballot must be registered voters. If anyone is unsure if they are registered to vote, check here: https://es.findmypollplace.com/greaterjohnstown/AmIRegistered.
For GJSD residents not currently registered, voter registration will be offered from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the lobby of the junior-senior high school auditorium. Bring photo identification and proof of residency.
The voters registered as permanently disabled with the county board of elections will automatically receive an absentee ballot. All others who want to vote by absentee ballot must fill out an application. The risk of contracting COVID-19 remains a valid reason to apply for an absentee ballot in New York. The original application must be received in the district office by May 11, if a voter wants the absentee ballot mailed. If the absentee ballot is to be picked up, the original application must be delivered to the district office by May 17. The applications can be requested by calling (518) 762-4611, Ext. 3119, or printed from the forms page of the district website: https://www.johnstownschools.org/about-us/forms/.
All absentee ballots must be received in the district office by 5 p.m. May 18, to be counted.
A public budget hearing will be held in the lecture hall of the junior-senior high school at 6 p.m. Tuesday (May 4) for community members to learn more about the budget proposal. A recording of the public budget hearing will be made available via the district website.
