FMCC reporting steady enrollment numbers

JOHNSTOWN — Fulton-Montgomery Community College is reporting steady enrollment figures for the spring semester.

The Board of Trustees heard a Student Affairs Committee report from Trustee William Easterly Thursday night.

Easterly said the college had 1,223 students registered for the spring semester, with just over 800 full-time equivalent students. Figures from last year were unavailable.

He said the “admissions team” at FMCC is excited about the figures.

He also reported FMCC has conducted “total access visit days” for prospective students and their families. During the visits, all the usual COVID-19 safety measures were in place, he said. Appointments were made, although there has been some weather issues that slightly hampered the visits, he said.

“Everybody who registered attended,” Easterly said.

He said the campus tours started at the Allen House, went to the library and athletic facilities were also shown. He said financial questions were also answered for the prospective students.

“The feedback was very positive,” Easterly said.

In other reports, Trustee Jennifer Gardella said the Academic Affairs Committee recently heard that the FMCC’s winter session “went off very, very well.” Advisement issues were also discussed.

Student Trustee Crystal Hutchins reported the SSA held its first meeting Feb. 11. COVID and a student campus climate survey were discussed. The survey was sent out to SSA members, and the group’s next meeting was set for March 11.

On the campus entertainment front, it was noted the Foggy Mountain Payers will perform a show in April. The SSA also voted to have FMCC participate in a SUNY-wide online concert.

In an FMCC Foundation report, it was noted the annual appeal total to date is $30,000, which is trending above last year.

Trustee James Landrio indicated in his Buildings and Grounds Committee report that 2020 FMCC capital projects were approved by Montgomery County.
