Jackson to give ‘State of the City’
JOHNSTOWN — Mayor Vern Jackson will deliver his annual “State of the City” address to the Common Council at its next business meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 19 at City Hall.
The meeting will be available to the public and media on the city’s Facebook page.
The mayor said Monday he is still working on his speech. But he promises that the annual address — usually touching on upcoming city projects — will be tailored for the COVID-19 pandemic impacting everyone.
“It will be a little different because of the COVID,” Jackson said.
He said he will be addressing general safety with COVID, but also thanking all those associated with city government who have kept government and the public safe while vital local operations have continued.
This will be Jackson’s last “State of the City” address, as he has decided not to run this year for another four-year term
City government buildings have largely been shut down during the pandemic, as cases have continued to be on the uptick everywhere.
According to the city’s website, City Hall building doors are locked. The hallways of the old structure are not wide enough to follow the social distancing guidelines.
But city officials note there is now a drop box located to the right of the front doors. The public is to use the drop box to leave any documents and/or payments. There is also a also a drop box at the Water Department building next to City Hall on East Main Street for water-related matters.
City Hall office hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. No one will be admitted in city buildings without a face mask.
